I have read a lot of health books since I started my wellness journey. I have become so passionate about learning more about the human body and health and I have been able to utilize the tools provided to begin healing my body. Below are some of my faves that have been the most life changing for me:
Breath by James Nestor
Until I read this book, I did not understand how important breath is to our overall health. I also learned that I have been breathing all wrong for several years. This book is fascinating and I highly recommend reading!
Hormone Intelligence by Dr. Aviva Romm
This book is a must-read for every woman. Dr. Aviva Romm does an incredible job explaining our hormones and how they intertwine with so many different systems in our body. She discusses that our cycle is our body’s 6th vital sign and helps women understand that we shouldn’t accept our symptoms as “normal”.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Atomic Habits is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. It is packed with actionable steps to build better habits and break bad habits. If you are looking to improve your health, or just your life in general, this book is for you.
Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe
Blood sugar is a topic I recently started diving into after noticing that my blood sugar spikes frequently appeared to be correlated with my POTS symptoms. This book is the ultimate blood sugar overview. Jessie explains how blood sugar can impact our health and provides hacks to balance blood sugar in a way that is attainable.
This is Your Brain on Food by Uma Naidoo, MD
The author utilizes cutting-edge research to discuss how we can eat for our mental health and brain health. She describes how food can have a profound impact on several mental health conditions. I truly believe food can be medicine and I found this book fascinating.
Activate Your Vagus Nerve by Dr. Navaz Habib
I read this book a few years ago when I first started learning about the vagus nerve and its relationship to chronic illness and dysautonomia. Dr. Navaz Habib does an excellent job explaining the vagus nerve’s function and how it impacts all of the systems in our body. He also provides readers with helpful tools. I had the pleasure of connecting with him personally and his work has been very helpful in my health journey!
Accessing the Healing Power of Your Vagus Nerve by Stanley Rosenberg
This book is another great guide to understanding the vagus nerve and how it impacts our well-being. Stanley discusses Polyvagal Theory and provides actionable steps and exercises as well.
The Anatomy of Anxiety by Ellen Vora, MD
Dr. Ellen Vora does an excellent job discussing anxiety as a whole-body condition and the many factors that can contribute. This book is incredibly informative and provides the reader with actionable strategies and several different topics to contemplate.
The Trifecta Passport (specific to EDS/POTS/MCAS) by Amber Walker, DPT
If you have been diagnosed with EDS, POTS or MCAS, this book is a wonderful resource. Amber Walker, an incredible practitioner and voice in this space, provides our community with an incredible roadmap to these complex conditions. Not only does she discuss these conditions, but she also dives into important related topics such as nervous system regulation, Lyme, mold, nutrition, exercise and much more. This book is so comprehensive and I feel very lucky to have discovered it.
Disjointed: Navigating the Diagnosis and Management of Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (specific to EDS/POTS/MCAS)
Fair warning- this book is a long one and reads more like a textbook. It was created for patients with hEDS and the physicians who treat them. Each chapter is written by a different specialist and it is full of incredible information on how hEDS can impact each body system.
