    What Are Ladyfinger Cookies?

Ladyfinger cookies, also known as savoiardi or sponge fingers, are light, airy and slightly sweet egg-based cookies shaped like long, thin fingers. Here’s a breakdown of their key characteristics:

    • Texture: They boast a delicate crumb that’s crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. This makes them perfect for absorbing liquids without becoming soggy.
    • Flavor: Ladyfingers have a subtle sweetness that comes primarily from the sugar used in the batter. They are not meant to be enjoyed on their own but rather as a component in desserts.
    • Ingredients: These cookies are surprisingly simple to make!
    • Use: The most common use for ladyfingers is in tiramisu, where they are dipped in coffee or espresso and layered with a creamy mascarpone filling. They can also be used as a base for trifles, charlottes and other layered desserts.

    Equipment Needed

All you need to make these gluten free ladyfingers is a mixing bowl, mixing spoon, measuring cups and spoons and a baking sheet.

    Ingredients Needed

Milk: I used dairy free almond milk in this recipe because I am dairy free. Any kind of milk should work though!

Lemon Juice: Lemon juice helps to create vegan buttermilk when mixed with milk.

Coconut Sugar: Coconut sugar adds sweetness to this recipe. Any kind of sugar works here!

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is used as a butter substitute in this recipe. You can also use butter or vegan butter.

Almond Extract: Almond extract gives these ladyfingers a delicious flavor!

Vanilla Extract: I love using vanilla extract in my baked goods.

Flour: I used Bob’s Red Mill Paleo Flour in these gluten free ladyfingers.

Baking Powder: Baking powder helps provide these gluten free ladyfingers with their texture and lift.

Salt: My favorite is Redmond’s Real Salt because it is high-quality and made with zero fillers. If you use my discount code LESSWITHLAUR you can get 15% off Redmond’s website.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1: Gather your ingredients. Preheat oven to 350°F.

Step 2: Combine milk and lemon in bowl.

Step 3: Stir in remaining ingredients.

Step 4: Place batter in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 5: Form into ladyfingers and place on baking sheet. (These cookies will spread so make them thin).

Step 6: Bake for 15-17 minutes.

    Storage

Store these cookies in an airtight container for 5-7 days.

    Variations

Flavor: Try making chocolate ladyfingers by adding cacao powder to the batter! You could also add in sprinkles.

Topping: Dust your ladyfingers with powdered sugar!

    How to Serve

The most common use for ladyfingers is adding them to tiramisu, but these gluten free ladyfingers can also be added to trifles, charlottes, cakes, cheesecakes and more! While primarily used in sweet dishes, ladyfingers can be dipped in savory broths or sauces for a unique appetizer or finger food.
