    caramel apple salad pin

This caramel apple salad is the best fall treat! It's one of those old-school recipes that never goes out of style and I've made it so many times. I was a caramel apple lover as a kid and this dessert is even better. I've tested various different mix-ins to get the perfect balance of creamy, crunchy and sweet. This recipe is one of my favorites because it's so easy to adapt for allergies and dietary preferences as well. You can also make a decadent version or a lighter version, so it doubles perfectly as a snack or a dessert delicious enough to bring to a potluck.

Why You'll Love This Caramel Apple Salad

My version of the caramel apple salad is made with coconut whipped cream, crispy green apples, chopped pecans, mini chocolate chips and dairy-free date caramel. It's a more wholesome twist on the traditional Snicker's salad which is packed with unnecessary artificial ingredients. I promise this version is even better!

The best part is that it comes together in just 5 minutes. There is absolutely no baking required and minimal chopping. If you need a last minute treat to bring to a party, this one is perfect. Kids and adults will both love it! Plus, it's super adaptable and easy to make allergy-friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free or even nut-free. I also love making a healthier lightened up version with vanilla yogurt as a snack!

    Ingredients You'll Need

    caramel apple salad ingredients
    • Whipped cream: Whipped cream makes up the base of this delicious salad. I used coconut whipped cream, but you can also use regular.
    • Granny Smith apples: Green apples are tart and give this dessert great flavor. You can also use red apples if you prefer.
    • Mini chocolate chips: I love adding chocolate to this salad!
    • Date caramel: I used homemade dairy-free caramel, but you can also use store bought caramel.
    • Chopped pecans: Gives this dessert texture and crunch.

    Recipe Variations

    • Whipped cream: I used coconut whipped cream, but feel free to use homemade whipped cream or regular whipped cream if you don't need dairy-free.
    • Base: Switch up the whipped cream and try adding vanilla yogurt or pudding instead.
    • Apples: I used Granny Smith, but you can also use a red apple like a Honey crisp or red delicious.
    • Mix ins: I added chopped pecans and mini chocolate chips, but the options are seriously endless. Add peanuts, white chocolate chips, pretzels, slivered almonds, shredded coconut, crushed graham crackers or cookies or mini marshmallows.
    • Fruit: You could also try adding different fruit like grapes, cherries or pineapple alongside the apple.

How To Make Caramel Apple Salad

    Step 1: Chop your apples.

Step 2: Add whipped cream, apples, mix ins and caramel to a bowl and combine!

    Recipe Tips

    • Fold ingredients gently rather than overmixing.
    • Add crunchy mix-ins (like cookies) right before you serve so they don't go soft sitting in the whipped cream.
    • This salad is best assembled a few hours ahead!
    • Serve this dessert chilled. Sprinkle extra mix-ins and drizzle caramel on top for perfect presentation!

    Storage and Make Ahead Tips

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer for 2 days (depending on how your whipped cream needs to be stored).

I would recommend making this dish as close to serving as possible because it tastes best fresh! If you make it a few hours before, leave it to chill in the fridge or freezer and then take it out and add more toppings right before serving!
