    Why You’ll Love This Sushi

    It’s super cute and unique!

This roll is fun to make.

It’s perfect for date night or a party!

    This recipe is very kid-friendly.

It’s very adaptable and you can choose any fillings you prefer.

This recipe is easily made gluten free and dairy free.

It can be whipped up in less than 30 minutes.

    Equipment Needed

All you need to make this heart shaped sushi is a heart shaped sushi mold. I have linked the one that I used.

    Ingredients Needed

Rice: I used white rice here, but feel free to use brown rice as well. If you are gluten free, make sure that your rice is certified gluten free. A hack for cooking the rice quicker is using frozen rice or quick cook rice.

Nori: This is what you will use to wrap the rolls!

Filling: I made these heart shaped sushi rolls out of just fruit and veggies, but feel free to use fish or any other filling of your choice. I used mango, cucumber, avocado, carrot and microgreens. I love how fresh they taste!

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    Step 1: Gather your ingredients.

Step 2: Cook your rice according to package.

Step 3: Cut your fruits and vegetables.

Step 4: Place your nori in the sushi mold and add rice on top.

Step 5: Make a little divot in the rice for the filling. You can use your finger or a spoon for this. Add your filling.

Step 6: Roll your sushi and close the mold. Cut the sushi roll into pieces and enjoy!

    Storage

Feel free to store these heart shaped sushi rolls in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 4-5 days.

    Variations

When it comes to fillings, the options are endless.

Add seafood: Try out raw fish like tuna, salmon, yellowtail and scallop (sashimi-grade!), cooked shrimp, eel, crab and even octopus.

Vegetables: Try adding pickled ginger, daikon radish and sweet potato.

Add eggs: Incorporate a thinly sliced omelet or marinated hard-boiled eggs.

Fruitful additions: Experiment with adding pineapple, starfruit and berries!

Meats: Seared steak or chicken teriyaki make a delicious addition!

    How To Serve

I like to serve these heart shaped sushi rolls with sauces! Some of my favorites are buffalo sauce and coconut aminos. Feel free to experiment with other dipping sauces like soy sauce, ponzu or spicy mayo.

Serve your sushi with pickled ginger and wasabi if that’s your jam.

If you are aiming for the perfect sides, try serving this meal with miso soup, edamame or seaweed salad!

    Pro Tips

Make sure your knife is wet and clean when cutting each piece of sushi. This will help prevent the nori from ripping.

Make your sushi while your rice is still warm. Cold rice is harder to work with!
