It's great for all your favorite salads, over a side dish or to brighten up a main meal. Nothing fancy, just really tasty. This homemade recipe with minimal ingredients is a great alternative to store-bought dressings. I love that it's a from-scratch staple that supports better digestion and my immune system and skips ingredients that can flare allergy-like symptoms. If you loved this recipe, try more low histamine staples like my Low Histamine Broth, this Low Histamine Ketchup and my Low Histamine Ranch Dressing. What is Histamine Intolerance?

A low histamine diet involves reducing the amount of histamine you consume through food and avoiding foods that trigger your body to release more histamine. Histamine is a chemical involved in immune responses and it's also found in many foods- especially aged, fermented or leftover ones (which really sucks!!). For people who don't break it down well, histamine can build up and lead to inflammation, allergic-like reactions and chronic symptoms.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

This Low Histamine Salad Dressing is a great alternative to store bought dressings.

It's healthy and light and very much allergy friendly.

You won't even need to take out your blender. It whips together quickly in a bowl.

It has a yummy, fresh taste that goes well with most salads.

You can use fresh or frozen herbs in this recipe - it's so convenient.

It brightens up salads, side dishes and can even work over chicken and fish.

In addition to being allergy friendly, it's also vegan, dairy free and gluten free.

    Equipment Needed

All you'll need is a bowl and whisk to make your dressing in.

    Ingredients Needed

Olive oil: Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil as the flavor will really shine through.

Apple cider vinegar: For the acidic balance in this Low Histamine Salad Dressing. Using a good quality apple cider vinegar is great for the gut and it is the lowest histamine type of vinegar.

Fresh herbs: I used dill, basil and chives but parsley, thyme and tarragon are great, too.

This Low Histamine Salad Dressing keeps beautifully in the refrigerator for about 7 days. You can also freeze it!

    Variations

If you're not sensitive to citrus, add in some freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Whisk in a tablespoon of tahini for a creamy version.

For a gut healing version, add in some freshly grated ginger and a teaspoon of aloe juice.

Make a blended version if you prefer a smoother texture.

    How To Serve

This Low Histamine Salad Dressing is actually pretty versatile. Here are a couple of ways I like to use it:

    • As a dressing for all my favorite salads - spring, summer, fall salads; it's great with all of them.
    • Drizzled over grilled chicken breast or steak.
    • Tossed with grilled or roasted veggies as a side dish.
    • As a dip for sliced of gluten free bread.
