This Pumpkin Barf is the perfect October Halloween food that is cute, disgusting and spooky, all at the same time! I serve this puking pumpkin every year as a snack, appetizer or a centerpiece to my Halloween spread. It's such a cute way to creep out your guests with a gross looking (but great tasting) recipe! This is also a great one to bring to a Halloween party. Just pack a serving tray, carved pumpkin, guacamole and chips in a bag and set it up when you get to the party. Everyone will be super impressed!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

I'm obsessed with this fun Pumpkin Barf recipe with other spooky decorations for your holiday celebration.

Pretty much everything works with this yummy eye catcher: tortilla chips, veggie sticks and all other savory party snack dippers!

I love that it takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your carving skills.

Works with other dippers, not just tortilla chips. Just add all your favorites.

It's 100% gluten free, dairy free and super customizable!

Kids will love making these, too, so keep them in mind for an activity.

They look cute with other spooky treats and nibbles on a table. Everyone will love them!

    Ingredients Needed

Pie pumpkin: Just a small one will do.

Guacamole: You'll need 2 portions of your favorite guac recipe.

Chips: A bag of tortilla chips for dipping with.

Find exact ingredients and quantities in the recipe card.

Step 4: Spoon guacamole to flow out of the pumpkin's mouth.

Step 5: Arrange chips around the guacamole and dig in!

    Storage

I like to make mine fresh. I recommend putting it out right before serving so it doesn't turn brown.

    Variations

Use it with veggie dippers like carrot, cucumber and celery sticks.

Make a batch of homemade guac for a 100% from scratch snack recipe.

Sometimes I'll swap the guac with bean dip. Looks equally gross!

    It's yummy topped with salsa.

Use crackers instead of pretzels in this fun Pumpkin Barf recipe.

    How To Serve

Here are all the ways I love to serve my Pumpkin Barf recipe:

    • I like to place the carved pumpkin in the center of a large serving tray with guacamole spilling out and surround it with tortilla chips, pita chips or veggie sticks.
    • Sometimes I'll build a Halloween-themed snack board with the pumpkin as the centerpiece. Add bowls of salsa, queso, olives and spooky snacks.
    • This is also a great recipe to make with kids as a fun activity!

    Recipe FAQ

What size pumpkin should I use?

A small to medium pumpkin works best; large enough to carve a face but not so big that it overwhelms your serving platter.

How do I keep the guacamole from turning brown?

Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole or squeeze a little lime juice over it to slow oxidation.

Can I use a different dip instead of guacamole?

Yes. Salsa, hummus or spinach dip all work well. Just make sure the texture is thick enough to "flow" from the pumpkin's mouth for the same fun effect.
