This Blueberry Syrup for Coffee is my new addiction. I love getting into my home barista mode, adding it to my homemade lattes, matcha drinks and summer sips. Refined sugar free and ready in under 15 minutes, it's so easy to make with just 3 ingredients. It pairs perfectly with mocktails and cocktails and just adds a splash and a pop of fresh, summer flavor. Making your own DIY blueberry syrup with natural ingredients and real fruit is a much better alternative to traditional syrups. You can easily adjust the sweetness to your liking or add other seasonal ingredients to create your own unique combination. Make a batch of this versatile summertime syrup with no artificial flavors or colors and you'll be hooked! If you loved this recipe and want to try a few more of my blueberry-based faves, try this Blueberry Low Histamine Smoothie, Blueberry Chia Jam or my Blueberry White Chocolate Oatmeal Bake.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

I love the natural, fruity sweetness and blueberry flavor it adds with only good-for-me ingredients.

It's ideal for adding something a little special to my coffee or matcha!

This Blueberry Syrup for Coffee also works in other recipes like homemade teas, a good cocktail or mocktail recipe and desserts.

It's really easy to make at home. With just a handful of simple ingredients, you can make something that's better than anything from the store.

You can dial the sweetness up or down really easily.

This homemade blueberry syrup has the prettiest color!

I love pairing it with citrus, vanilla, cinnamon and also fresh herbs like mint or basil. It works really well with these flavors.

If you love celebrating the seasons and specific fruits in season, this is a great option. It adds a fun, summer feel to your drinks.

    Equipment Needed

I used a pan, strainer and a spoon to make this Blueberry Syrup for Coffee - that's it! Such a breeze.

    Ingredients Needed

Frozen blueberries: Just the regular frozen blueberries you use for your smoothies. You could also use fresh blueberries in this blueberry syrup if you wanted to.

Coconut sugar: I love the rich, caramel like flavor from coconut sugar in my fruit syrup.

Vanilla extract: This is optional but I love adding a little vanilla for a dreamy, desserty taste.

    Step By Step Instructions

    Step 1. Gather your ingredients.

Step 2. Warm the blueberries with some sugar and water in a pan. Heat them over a low to medium heat until the berries begin to break down.

Step 3. Add in the vanilla and then strain the mixture. Your Blueberry Syrup for Coffee is then ready to go!

    Storage

Pour your blueberry syrup into a glass container with a lid. This should keep in the fridge for about a week.

You can also pour the syrup into ice trays and store them frozen. I like to pop the frozen blocks out and keep them in a freezer friendly bag. That way, I can grab a few out of the bag when I need them.

    Variations

You can use other kind of berries to make this syrup - try it with strawberries, blackberries, pitted cherries or raspberries. Each will taste a little different.

Use brown sugar or white sugar instead of coconut sugar if you prefer.

Make a pomegranate version of this for a lovely light pink hue.

Add whole spices like a cinnamon stick, star anise or a few cardamom pods to the Blueberry Syrup for Coffee.

Make a herby version by adding in a few fresh mint leaves, basil or lemongrass to the syrup while its simmering.

Simmer the berries with citrus peel - orange, lemon, grapefruit and lime peel all make interesting flavor boosts to your blueberry syrup recipe.

    How To Serve

Once I have a batch, I can't stop thinking of ways to use it:

    • Chilled and drizzled into my iced matcha drinks
    • As a sweetener for my favorite coffees - hot and cold
    • Poured over my morning granola, coconut yogurt and fruit bowls
    • As a fruit syrup for ice cream or any dessert
    • Drizzled over warm baked oats, overnight oats, chia puddings or any oatmeal
    • As a blueberry syrup for drinks in general. I love using it to sweeten homemade iced teas or fruit juices

    Recipe FAQ
