This matcha milkshake is dairy and gluten free, ultra-creamy and made with 3 ingredients. I love that it comes together in minutes and is packed with all the benefits of high-quality matcha. This refreshing little pick-me-up is perfect for spring and summer and is a great sweet treat for St. Paddy’s Day. Plus, it is made with simple, minimal ingredients for a really delicious result. The green tea flavor from the high quality matcha blends beautifully with the ice cream. The result is pretty unexpected – it’s a real treat! What Is Matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground tea powder made from special tea leaves. Matcha originated in China and is also a feature in Japanese lifestyle. Matcha has a naturally strong, earthy taste that is also slightly bitter – much like green tea.
There are different grades of matcha – culinary and ceremonial, with ceremonial being higher in quality. A lot of people drink matcha for its health benefits.

Equipment Needed
All you will need for your matcha milkshake is a blender, measuring cups and spoons.
Ingredients Needed
Vanilla Ice Cream: I love using coconut, almond or oat-based ice cream, to keep it dairy free. Choose a rich, creamy ice cream that has a high fat content and isn’t too icy. Coconut-based ice cream is my favorite and the best brand is Nadamoo!
Matcha Powder: I really recommend investing in a high-quality
ceremonial matcha. My favorite brand is Pique – their sun goddess
matcha is just incredible.
Milk: Oat, almond or coconut milk all work well. A barista-style plant-
based milk can make your matcha milkshake extra-creamy. I used almond milk in this recipe!
Vanilla Extract: This is totally optional, but gives the drink more of a warm vanilla flavor!
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1: Gather your ingredients.
Step 2: Add all of your ingredients into the jug of a high-speed blender. Blend and enjoy!
Variations
If you prefer a sweeter drink, blend in a tablespoon of maple syrup or a teaspoon of raw honey.
This base recipe is customizable, so turn it into a protein milkshake with a scoop of your favorite protein powder.
Make a choc matcha milkshake version (I make this version for friends who are new to matcha) by blending in a spoonful of cocoa powder or a drizzle of melted dark chocolate. Adding ½ a frozen banana is another great way to introduce matcha as a new flavor – it just tones down the earthiness.
If you are looking to add additional flavor, try adding mint extract!
How To Serve
Matcha milkshakes are best enjoyed immediately after blending.
Serve in a cold glass for the optimal experience!
Consider adding garnishes like mint, chocolate shavings or strawberries.
Serve these milkshakes for St. Patrick’s Day or a summer gathering!
Storage
I recommend enjoying your milkshake straight away. You can also freeze it if you want to enjoy it later on!
