Make my dreamy little homemade Dilly Bar recipe with minimal ingredients! When I was younger, we would frequent Dairy Queen weekly in the summer and my dad’s favorite was the Dilly Bar (I usually opted for a Blizzard). Now, I recreate the classic recipes and make them gluten free, dairy free and with better ingredients. This copycat recipe takes just a few minutes to make! I love that the recipe comes together in one bowl, plus it is easy to make refined sugar free. Nostalgia on a stick, the frozen sweet treats turn out creamy and incredibly delicious. Plus, this variation had a fun surprise in the middle! For more fun copycat recipes, try my In N Out Burger, Gluten Free Hamburger Helper and these iconic Chicken Snack Wraps!

    What is a dilly bar?

A traditional Dilly Bar is a frozen dessert made by Dairy Queen. The soft serve is shaped like a disc and is coated in chocolate. I made a more wholesome version by using yogurt and chocolate!

    Why you’ll love this recipe

Nibbling on a Dilly Bar takes me right back to childhood and is so nostalgic!

    They are creamy and silky!

The snap of the frozen chocolate is so satisfying!

One bowl: Because no one wants a boat load of dishes!

Easy to change the flavors: I never get tired of these because there are so many ways to flavor them!

    Great to make with kids.

Great to top: You can add loads of sprinkles to make them a little fancy- try salt flakes, dried rose petals or toasted nuts.

    Equipment needed

To make this Dilly Bar recipe, you’ll need some kitchen basics. Gather up a bowl, a set of measuring cups and spoons, a baking sheet, parchment paper and popsicle sticks.

    Ingredients needed

Dairy free yogurt: Choose a thick, yogurt for a creamy “soft serve” that holds its structure in the freezer.

Vanilla protein powder: Use your favorite brand!

Honey or maple syrup: For a touch of natural sweetness. You can also leave these out.

Vanilla: I love adding a little vanilla – it adds to the “soft serve” feel to each Dilly Bar.

Candies: I added some chocolate candies in the center for a surprise!

    For the shell

Dairy free chocolate chips: Use a good quality chocolate that melts easily.

Coconut oil (optional): I recommend it for a glossy coating and a snap!

    Step by step instructions

    Step 1: Gather your ingredients.

Step 2: Add the filling ingredients into a bowl and combine them.

Step 3: Spoon the filling onto a lined baking sheet and make circles.

Step 3: Press a popsicle stick into each circle of yogurt mixture.

Step 4: Freeze your copycat Dilly Bar pops until hard.

Step 5: Make the coating by melting chocolate and coconut oil together in the microwave or over simmering hot water.

Step 6: Pour the chocolate over the yogurt pops until completely coated and freeze again until hard.

    Storage

Store this Dilly Bar recipe in the freezer for up to 3 months. Wrap each one in parchment paper to make sure they don’t freeze together!

    Variations

Double chocolate: Use a chocolate instead of vanilla protein powder. You could mix in some vegan chocolate chips too!

Mocha: Swap vanilla for strong, chilled espresso.

Strawberries and cream: Use a white chocolate for the shell and stir in some freeze dried strawberries into your Dilly Bar recipe.

Matcha: You know how I love a bit of matcha – mix 1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder into the yogurt.

Candies: Try adding different candies or sprinkles into the mixture!

Toppings: Top with flaky sea salt or sprinkles!

Chocolate: Switch up the chocolate! Try making a white chocolate shell instead of a dark chocolate shell.

    How to serve

Because this Dilly Bar recipe uses good-for-me ingredients, I have them as a snack, dessert or anytime treat.

    • Have them straight out of the freezer.
    • Serve them to friends in a large bowl or plate with ice, so they stay cool for as long as possible.
    • Have them by the pool as a treat!
    • This makes a cute summertime dessert when you have friends over.
