Halloween Bark is one of the easiest and sweetest treats to make for the spookiest day of the year. This foolproof dessert is perfect for Halloween parties, trick-or-treaters or a last-minute treat for kids and adults. With chocolate, candy eyeballs, Halloween sprinkles, pretzels and assorted toppings, it's a fun, colorful and edible craft that's super flexible. You can adapt it for any holiday or celebration, really. The result is a chocolatey, sweet-and-salty snack that's bite-sized, fancy and kid-friendly, perfect for sharing with class parties or costume parties. I always find a reason to make these a couple of times in October at least!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

This is one of the easiest, last-minute treat recipes I make for Halloween parties. If you have kiddies, these are great for class parties.

Super fun and flexible, you can use whichever themed candies, pretzels and sprinkles you like.

I love that there's no oven time and no baking required. Just melt, pour, sprinkle and chill.

If you're looking for a homemade candy recipe for trick-or-treaters, you've got to try a batch!

Sweet and salty perfection, chocolate paired with pretzels and snacks adds fun texture.

I love packing them up and giving them as gifts. Super cute!

This recipe doesn't make a ton of dishes which I really appreciate.

    Equipment Needed

You'll need a bowl to melt the chocolate in and a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to set the Halloween Bark in. I also used a spoon for this recipe.

    Ingredients Needed

Chocolate: I used a bag of chocolate chips but you can use broken up chocolate pieces if you like.

Assorted candies and snacks: If you have extra time, make a batch of my Candy Eyes and White Chocolate Ghosts to use in your Halloween Bark.

    Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Gather your ingredients and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Storage

Store Halloween Bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Layer with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

I'll sometimes make this recipe ahead and freeze it. Once the bark has fully hardened, I break it into pieces and layer them between sheets of parchment or wax paper in an airtight, freezer-safe container or bag. I then freeze the pieces of Halloween Bark for up to three months.

When I'm ready to enjoy them, I let the pieces thaw at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes.

    Variations

Use dairy free chocolate for a vegan version of my Halloween Bark.

Add a few drops of coconut oil while melting the chocolate to make it shinier.

Sprinkle with colorful Halloween sprinkles for festive flair.

Sometimes I swap in different pretzels, nuts or cereal for a unique sweet-and-salty combination.

Make mini bark pieces in silicone molds for single servings.

    • A bite-sized treat for trick-or-treaters. Trust me, they love it!

    Recipe FAQ

Can I make Halloween bark ahead of time?

Yes! It keeps for weeks in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.

How should I store Halloween bark?

Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Use parchment paper between layers if stacking.

What is the best way to break up the bark?

Once hardened, gently break into pieces by hand or score with a knife for more even shapes.

    What is bark candy?

Bark is a no-bake treat made by spreading melted chocolate and adding toppings, then letting it harden and breaking it into bite-sized pieces.

Does Halloween bark need to be refrigerated?

It can be stored at room temperature, but refrigerating helps it harden faster and stay firm in warm climates.

What is Halloween bark made of?

The base is melted chocolate, decorated with assorted candies, pretzels and sprinkles, plus my Candy Eyes.

Can I make this recipe dairy free?

Yes! Use dairy free chocolate chips to make the bark vegan and allergy friendly.

How can I make my chocolate shiny?

Add a small amount of coconut oil when melting chocolate for a smooth, glossy finish.
