    What Is a Sushi Bake?

A sushi bake is a deconstructed version of a sushi roll that has become incredibly popular, especially through platforms like TikTok. Instead of carefully rolling individual sushi pieces, all the components are layered in a casserole dish and baked.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    It’s delicious and flavorful!

This spicy salmon sushi bake is so easy to make.

This dinner idea is much easier than rolling sushi rolls.

    It is super customizable!

This dish is gluten free and dairy free!

It is the perfect lazy girl hack.

You can use any toppings you love!

    Equipment Needed

All you need to make this spicy salmon sushi bake is a baking dish, bowl and spoon.

    Ingredients Needed

Rice: I used cooked white rice in this recipe. The rice needs to be precooked.

Sugar: I added coconut sugar to the rice to give this dish a sweet and savory taste.

Nori: Nori is a type of edible seaweed that’s a staple in Japanese cuisine. You’ve probably seen it as the dark green wrapper around sushi rolls. It is layered in this dish.

Garlic Powder: Garlic powder gives the salmon layer some extra flavor!

Salt: My favorite is Redmond’s Real Salt because it is high-quality and made with zero fillers. If you use my discount code LESSWITHLAUR you can get 15% off Redmond’s website.

Salmon: I used precooked salmon in the salmon layer of this recipe! This is a great use for leftover salmon.

Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise gives the salmon layer a creamy texture! Feel free to use vegan mayonnaise if needed!

Sriracha: Sriracha gives this recipe tons of spice and flavor!

Toppings: I used jalapeño, green onions and extra mayonnaise and sriracha to top this spicy salmon sushi bake.

    Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Gather your ingredients and preheat oven to 350°F.

Step 2: Mix sugar and rice together and layer in the bottom of the baking dish.

Step 3: Layer nori sheets on top of rice.

Step 4: Combine salmon, garlic powder, salt, mayonnaise and sriracha in a bowl.

Step 5: Layer salmon over nori sheets and bake for 15 minutes.

Step 6: Add toppings (I added jalapeño, green onions, extra mayonnaise and sriracha on top) and enjoy!

    Storage

Store this spicy salmon sushi bake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

    Variations

Rice: I used white rice in this recipe, but feel free to use brown rice, wild rice, quinoa or black rice instead.

Fish: I used salmon in this spicy salmon sushi bake. This recipe can also be made with other types of fish. Try it out with tuna, yellowtail or crab.

Sauce: I used mayonnaise and sriracha to make the sauce. You can also try using yogurt, rice vinegar, lemon or lime, soy sauce, sesame and ginger if you want to play around with the flavors!

Toppings: I topped my spicy salmon sushi bake with jalapeño, green onions and extra mayonnaise and sriracha. Try adding sesame seeds, avocado, cucumber or mango.

    How to Serve

A spicy salmon sushi bake is best served warm and fresh. Here’s how to serve it and some ideas for accompaniments:

    • Scooping and Sharing: The most common way to serve it is directly from the baking dish. Use a large spoon or spatula to scoop out portions onto individual plates or bowls. It’s meant to be a communal dish, perfect for sharing.
    • Nori Sheets: Provide plenty of nori sheets alongside the bake. Guests can use the nori to wrap or scoop up portions of the sushi bake, like making mini hand rolls.
    • Individual Portions: For a more formal presentation, you can portion the sushi bake into individual ramekins or small baking dishes before baking.
    • Try serving with these side dishes:
    • Miso Soup: A warm bowl of miso soup complements the sushi bake perfectly.
    • Japanese Salad: A simple salad with a light dressing adds a refreshing element.
    • Edamame: Steamed or lightly salted edamame is a healthy and easy side dish.
