If you are a pasta lover, you need to try this TikTok viral French Onion Pasta trend! Golden brown, caramelized onions nestled in a creamy, dreamy pasta, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The second I saw it, I knew I had to make it. But as always, I've put my own spin on it to make it allergy-friendly and adaptable. This version is completely gluten free and dairy free, yet still delivers that rich and delicious flavor you crave. I also added in chicken for some protein! It's the perfect combination of French onion soup and pasta, a true comfort food masterpiece. This recipe, featuring thinly sliced onions cooked to a sweet, golden brown perfection, is simple, adaptable and a made in one pan, meaning fewer dishes! It's incredibly customizable to your tastes, and the best part? It takes less than an hour to make, making it ideal for a quick weeknight dinner or even a cozy date night. I am in love! This dish is super customizable.

    It's rich and delicious.

    Equipment Needed

All you need to make this French Onion Pasta is a pan, measuring cups and spoons and a spoon to stir!

    Ingredients Needed

Chicken: I like to use high-quality and organic chicken whenever possible. I added chicken to this recipe to balance it out and add some protein!

Salt/Seasoning: I used salt and pepper to season the chicken! My favorite is Redmond's Real Saltbecause it is high-quality and made with zero fillers. If you use my discount code LESSWITHLAUR you can get 15% off Redmond's website.

Onions: I love using sweet onions in this recipe. It gives this dish such a delicious flavor!

Thyme: Thyme adds an earthy, slightly minty, and savory dimension that complements the sweetness of the caramelized onions.

Broth: I used chicken broth in this recipe, but any type of broth works here!

Coconut Aminos: Thyme adds an earthy, slightly minty and savory dimension that complements the sweetness of the caramelized onions.

Pasta: I used gluten free pasta in this recipe because I am gluten free! Use whatever pasta you like.

Coconut Milk: I added coconut milk to this pasta dish for some creaminess. This is a great substitute for dairy!

    Step By Step Instructions

    Step 1: Gather your ingredients.

Step 2: Add chicken to an oiled pan, season with salt and pepper and cook over medium heat until browned.

Step 3: Chop onions. I like to thinly slice them!

Step 4: Remove chicken from pan and add onions. Cook on low-medium heat until caramelized.

Step 5: Pour in chicken broth, coconut aminos and thyme and bring to a boil.

Step 6: Add in pasta and cook until soft.

Step 7: Add back chicken, pour in coconut milk and stir. Serve and enjoy!

    Storage

Store this French Onion Pasta in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 4-5 days! I promise it will not last that long though!

    Variations

Protein: I used chicken breast in this recipe, but feel free to try adding steak instead!

Vegetables: I focused on the onions in this recipe, but you can also add additional veggies. Try adding mushrooms, spinach or asparagus!

Broth: I used chicken broth in this recipe, but you can also use beef broth or bone broth!

Sauce: I used coconut aminos in this French Onion Pasta, but feel free to swap them out for soy sauce instead.

Milk: I used coconut milk to make this recipe creamy. You can also use almond milk or another dairy free milk!

Toppings: I topped this pasta dish with green onions for some color. You can also top it with crispy onions, cheese, fresh herbs or a balsamic glaze.

    How to Serve

Serving French onion pasta can be just as important as the dish itself! Here are some ideas for how to present and serve it:

Shallow Dishes: Shallow dishes or pasta bowls can showcase the creamy sauce and toppings beautifully.

Garnish: Don't forget the garnish! Fresh herbs, crispy onions or a sprinkle of dairy free cheese can elevate the presentation.

Side Salads: A light, crisp salad with a vinaigrette dressing can balance the richness of the pasta. A simple green salad or a tomato and cucumber salad would be perfect.
