This is the best way to make Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes. With just 4 ingredients and a little seasoning, you can make the most perfect potatoes that are ridiculously fluffy and creamy. When that craving for garlic loaded mashed potatoes hits, this is my go-to. It's honestly such a delicious and luxurious mashed potato recipe. Super satisfying, I love making this nostalgic recipe for dinner; it makes the easiest swap to regular milk and butter mashed potatoes. You're going to want to make a cozy bowl of this favorite comfort food this Thanksgiving!

Back before my food allergies were diagnosed, I would make mashed potatoes with my mom all the time. She used to let me eat one of the "mashed potato pops" after mixing it with a hand blender. That was my favorite part and so, you can imagine, I was devastated when I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy and could no longer eat her buttery mashed potatoes anymore. Now I make my own delicious version (and make my own mashed potato pops of course)!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

It's totally vegan and dairy free but still incredibly creamy and with a great taste.

The texture of the mashed potatoes is super rich, I find this is the fluffiest way to make to them!

I love serving my Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes on my holiday table. They're also great as a regular mid-week side, of course.

This has got to be my favorite comfort food recipe!

This recipe is the perfect twist on a absolute classic side.

    They're SO easy!

    Ingredients Needed

Potatoes: I like to use starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for creamy, fluffy mashed potatoes. I like to peel them for a smooth texture but you can also leave some skin on if you like yours with a more rustic texture.

Vegan butter: My favorite brand is Miyoko's, but any high quality plant based butter will work here. Monty's has the best ingredients if you can find it near you!

Dairy-free milk: I used coconut milk but any dairy free milk will work here! Choose unsweetened, full fat and unflavored varieties to control the seasoning and flavor.

Garlic: I prefer using fresh garlic but you can also roast it first for a milder, sweeter taste.

Find exact ingredients and quantities in the recipe card.

Step 4: Pop your the potatoes into a bot of salted water and bring the water to a rolling boil. Cook the potatoes for about 15 to 20 minutes until totally soft when poked with a fork.

Step 5: Add the potatoes to a mixer and process them with butter, salt, garlic and milk.

Step 6: Serve the recipe with fresh chives and a dollop of butter to garnish.

    Storage

I keep leftover Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes in the fridge in an airtight container for about 3 days.

I don't recommend storing any leftover mashed potatoes in the freezer as it messes with the texture.

    Variations

If you need to thin out the Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes, try using broth. This adds a yummy flavor.

Try roasted garlic instead of using fresh garlic.

Make a more rustic version by leaving the peel on.

Make a comination of veggies by mixing the potatoes with pumpkin or butternut squash.

    How To Serve

The ways to serve and enjoy these Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes are endless. Here are a few:

    • As a side to proteins for a weeknight dinner!
    • In a large bowl on a Thanksgiving or holiday table.
    • Topped with cracked black pepper, flaky sea salt or chives!
    • With a pool of gravy drizzled over it!
    • As part of a mashed potato bar, with toppings like caramelized onions, bacon, cheesy sauce and more!
