This Maple Icing is an easy and simple, 5-minute glaze you'll be obsessed with all season long. I make it with just a few ingredients and it's perfect for topping baked goods and desserts with. It adds a very fall-forward, unique flavor that turns every bite into a fall flavor party. I love the yummy boost from pure maple syrup, it gives this icing a richer taste, smoother texture and thicker consistency that spreads really easily. This recipe comes together super fast and is one of my new favorite glazes for fall bakes. It's also naturally dairy free and vegan.

It's a balance of creamy, sweet and irresistible and is an easy way to elevate blondies, cake, cookies and scones. I find that using this icing is a really great way to transform a simple treat to something extra special. It has minimal ingredients, so you can whip up this frosting in no time and make any autumn bake unforgettable. Why You'll Love This Recipe

I love any recipe like this one that's quick and easy, ready in just 5 minutes with minimal effort.

My maple icing comes together with only 4 simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.

Rich, smooth and creamy with that irresistible maple sweetness. It's absolutely delicious. You're going to lick the bowl clean!

It's naturally dairy free and vegan!

I really like how the unique fall flavor boosts up all my favorite baked goods. It takes a basic cake or loaf and makes it super delicious.

Thick yet fluffy, it spreads beautifully and looks elegant on desserts. I love the glossy, silky look of this icing.

It's also versatile enough to use on blondies, cookies, cakes or even scones.

    Equipment Needed

All you need is a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip this maple icing to a smooth, creamy consistency. Plus, a bowl of course.

I also used a sieve to sieve out lumps in my powdered sugar.

    Maple icing

    Ingredients Needed

Powdered sugar: Sieve out any lumps and bumps before making this Maple Icing recipe.

Coconut cream: This adds richness and helps create a smooth, creamy texture. It replaces regular butter or cream cheese in conventional icing recipes.

Maple syrup: I love using this for a fall-forward flavor. You could also use runny honey but maple syrup is ideal.

Vanilla extract: This is optional, but I really recommend adding it to the maple icing.

    Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Start by gathering your ingredients and getting out your equipment.

    Maple icing

Step 2: Combine powdered sugar, coconut cream, maple syrup and vanilla (if using) in a bowl.

Step 3: Using a mixer, whip everything together until it's velvety smooth and fluffy.

    Maple icing

Step 4: Spread the maple icing immediately over blondies, cookies, cakes or any of your favorite fall desserts.

    Storage

This maple icing can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Before using, bring it to room temperature and whisk again if it has thickened.

I don't recommend freezing it, as it can affect the smooth texture.

    Variations

Make it lighter: Swap coconut cream for dairy-free milk for a lighter glaze, though it won't be as thick.

Extra cozy flavor: Add a sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg or pumpkin spice for an extra fall flavor party.

Use honey instead of maple syrup: This will make your icing sweeter for sure but still delicious.

    How To Serve

This Maple Icing goes on loads of my favorite bakes and recipes. Here are a few different ways I use it:

    • This icing is the perfect glaze for my Apple Cinnamon Blondies, pumpkin bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies or scones.
    • Use it instead of store bought frosting on my Frosted Pumpkin Bread.
    • Spread it on cooled baked goods like my Vegan Pumpkin Brownies for a smooth finish or drizzle it lightly for a more casual, rustic look.

It's a simple way to elevate everyday desserts into festive fall treats.

    Recipe FAQ

What kind of maple syrup is best for frosting?

I like to use pure maple syrup, preferably Grade A Dark, for the richest, most flavorful icing. Using an infused maple syrup is also super fun!

What goes well with an easy maple syrup frosting recipe?

It is yummy with blondies, spice cakes, cookies, muffins and fall bakes like pumpkin bread.

    How to fix thick icing?

Add a splash of coconut cream or dairy-free milk to loosen it up until you reach the consistency you're after.

Does the icing need to be refrigerated?

Yes, because of the coconut cream, keep leftovers in the fridge.

Can I use regular sugar instead of powdered sugar?

No, powdered sugar is necessary for the smooth, fluffy texture.

Can I substitute dairy free milk for coconut cream?

You can, but the texture will be thinner and less rich.

What other flavors could I add to this?

A pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg or pumpkin spice will make it extra festive and fall-forward.

      5 stars
This maple icing/glaze was delicious and easy. I can't have gluten or dairy, so finding this recipe really meant a lot to me. We keep our maple syrup in the refrigerator, so that helped the icing stay firm longer than it maybe would have otherwise. Thank you for this great recipe!
