    Golden Milk Ice Cream

    July 31, 2025, Updated July 31, 2025 by Lauren Less 1 Comment

After trying this dreamy, Golden Milk Ice Cream at Gati in Austin, I knew I had to recreate it at home. Honestly, it might be my newest obsession. With its creamy texture, coconutty base and warming spices, this frozen treat is a beautiful blend of ancient roots and modern, feel good indulgence. So good! It's made with healing ingredients like earthy turmeric, ginger and cardamom, creating a rich, vibrant and wholesome dessert that's both comforting and refreshing. It's perfect for a heatwave, but you can definitely enjoy it all year round. Naturally sweetened, gluten free, refined sugar free and completely plant based, it'll satisfy your sweet tooth without sacrificing your health goals. It's a silky, spiced and surprisingly simple dessert that's as indulgent as it is good for you. Keep it on your summer rotation, wow your guests or just chill with a scoop when you need a little boost.

It's packed with turmeric, ginger, and cardamom. Personally, I love this spice blend so if you're a chai kind of girly/guy; you'll love this.

You can absolutely adjust the base of this recipe. Switch up the spices or milk.

It's simple to prep with pantry staples. There a no added gums, thickeners or mystery additives.

This recipe is super refreshing on hot days.

Step 5: Add your toppings and dive in!

    Storage

Store your leftover or made ahead Golden Milk Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami container or a freezer-safe airtight container with a lid. Keep it frozen and enjoy within 3 to 5 days for the best texture.

I try to avoid thawing and refreezing it as it can affect the texture.

    Variations

Black pepper: Adding a little freshly ground black pepper brings out the turmeric's flavor and actually promotes anti-inflammation.

Maple spice: Swap coconut sugar for pure maple syrup and add in a little ground cinnamon.

Creamy banana: Blend in half a frozen banana. This is very delicous and a great way to make this extra kid-friendly.

Use a chai blend: Use a blend of cardamom, clove and ginger in your Golden Milk Ice Cream.

Make it herby and floral: Steep chamomile or rooibos tea in the almond milk before making the ice cream base. Remember to strain the leaves and herbs out.

    How To Serve

This Golden Milk Ice Cream is really easy to make. Here's how to enjoy it:

    • In a pretty and chilled bowl with fresh fruit like blueberries and blackberries.
    • In a gluten free cone.
    • At a poolside party as an easy and delicious dessert.

What Toppings Should I Put on this Ice Cream?

Sometimes, when I have friends coming over, I'll build a little Golden Milk Ice Cream bar and let everyone choose their favorite toppings.

    • Fresh pear or steamed apple cubes
    • Chopped medjool dates

    Recipe FAQ

What is golden milk made of?

Typically, golden milk is a blend of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper and milk (often plant-based), sometimes sweetened and flavored with vanilla.

Does golden milk really help with inflammation?

Yes, turmeric and ginger are known to be naturally anti-inflammatory.

Do Whole Foods sell golden milk?

Yes, Whole Foods carries golden milk blends, pre-made drinks and golden milk paste in their wellness section.

What does golden milk taste like?

Golden milk has a warm, earthy, slightly spicy flavor with a little sweetness and a creamy finish.

Can you recommend an ice cream maker?

I honestly love The Ninja Creami for smooth, silky ice cream results.

How can I make this Golden Milk Ice Cream recipe with golden milk paste?

All you need to do is mix a spoonful of golden milk paste into your milk base before freezing. You'll use this instead of the dried spices in my recipe.

Is there any way to get this less icy/dry?

For a creamier texture, use full-fat coconut milk and try not over-blend it. Consider adding a small amount of nut butter or avocado for extra creaminess.

Can I use another milk alternative?

Yes, you can use any milk in this recipe.

Can I use fresh/whole spices instead of dried spices?

Yes, you can bring the milk to the boil with the whole spices and then turn it down and simmer it for a few minutes. After that, let the spices sit in the milk for a few minutes before straining the mixture. It might be a little less potent in flavor.

What do you do when the coconut milk separates and hardens after chilling it?

Warm it gently and whisk or blend it to recombine. It should be good to go then.

Do you use the whole can of coconut milk/cream or just the cream part?

For this Golden Milk Ice Cream, use the whole can of coconut milk.

Is there a way to do this without an ice cream machine?

Absolutely. Freeze the blended mixture in a shallow dish then let it soften it a litlte before blending it again.

What does golden milk taste like?

Golden milk tastes mostly of the spices and coconut cream if its used in the base.
